Joe Mansueto proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1950 to 1953. During his 40-plus-year career with Mobil Oil Company, he and his family lived in Lake Charles, Lafayette, New Orleans, Morgan City, and Metairie. As a natural athlete, he loved all sports. From 1946 to 1948, he earned the affectionate title of “Lil Joe” as the Lake Charles High Wildcats basketball and softball star. As an adult, he loved golfing, fishing, and bowling. If he wasn’t playing a sport, you could find him building and tinkering in his garage or tending to his garden. He had a keen interest in learning and adventure, traveling to Europe, Russia, Mexico, Canada, and throughout the US with his beloved Inez. They filled their home with music and dancing, instilling this appreciation in “their girls.” He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, biking and hiking with them and teaching them to fish. He often had a fishing pole in one hand and a grandchild in the other.
Joe measured his life, not by material things, but by love. The friendships he forged as a young child lasted for more than eight decades. He was a devoted husband to his wife, proud father of his four daughters, loving and funny “Papa” to his 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and a mentor or a pal, whatever someone needed, to countless others. He taught by example showing us that regardless of what happens, we have the strength to pick ourselves up and keep going. His faith guided him and helped him always support his family and friends. To us, his legacy is his tenacity, his joy for life, and most of all, his love.
Pallbearers will be Ross Allen Stamm, Thomas Stuart Chance II, Gregory Joseph Mansueto Edgmon, Gavin Niles Stamm, John Spencer Chance, Cooper Anthony Manes, and Connor Joseph Manes.
The Mansueto family extends their deepest gratitude to the caregivers who have selflessly supported “Mr. Joe” in his time of need.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating a Mass in Joseph Anthony Mansueto Jr.’s name to your church of choice.
