St. Louis Catholic Graham Montet made a big impact for the St. Louis Catholic Saints in his senior season in all three phases of the game. None bigger than the defensive side where he has earned the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A Outstanding Defensive Player.
At linebacker, Montet, the District 3-3A defensive MVP, racked up his third consecutive 100 tackle season while leading a defense that allowed 14.6 points a game and reached the Select Division II regional round. Montet made 105 tackles, plus 7.5 tackles for a loss, an interception, four passes defended, a pair of fumble recoveries, two blocked punts and three forced fumbles.
His punishing style of play also fit into the Saints’ ground game where he led with 12 touchdowns, plus 670 yards on 99 carries, plus he threw a pair of touchdown passes.
On special teams, he led the Saints with 317 total kick return yards.
Montet was joined in the Class 3A first team by teammate Landon Daughdril, who continues a long line of Saint standout kicking specialists to land on the team.
Daughdril, an all-district punter and kicker, made all 32 extra point kicks and 12 of 15 field goals, including a 52-yarder in a 45-20 win over Kinder on Sept. 22.
As a punter, Daughdril averaged 42.9 yards a kick, landing 20 of 29 inside the 20-yard line.
Also on the first team from District 3-3A, Lake Charles College Prep defensive back Erick Franklin Jr.. He made 102 total tackles while breaking up 10 passes, intercepting two others and forcing three fumbles. Franklin helped lead the Trailblazers to a pair of upsets in the Select Division III playoffs as a No. 21 seed. LCCP reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 2020.
St. James quarterback Brayden Williams is the Outstanding Offensive Player (167-266-7, 2,670 yards, 32 TD / 130 car., 749 yards, 17 TD) and Union Parish’ Joe Spatafora is the Coach of the Year.
Spatafora led Union Parish to its first state championship since 2013, beating Williams and St. James in the Nonselect Division III title game 36-35.
