Dorothy Malone Bowes

Dorothy Anne Malone Bowes, 83, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 11, 2023.
Mrs. Bowes was born in Lake Arthur, La. to John Clifton Malone and Cecile Bailly Malone and lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She was a graduate of LaGrange High School and McNeese State University. Mrs. Bowes was a regional public health educator for the State of Louisiana Public Health Department serving Region V. She also served as administrative assistant to the Director at Moss Regional Hospital. Upon retirement from the State, she worked for CARC as director of the Respite Care Program; Southwest Health Counseling as a case manager specializing with autistic clients; director of Day Hospital housed at Lake Charles Mental Health for four years and was a group supervisor for the Volunteers of America Louisiana Spirit Program after Hurricane Rita.
Mrs. Bowes loved to travel in the states and abroad, visiting 22 states. Hawaii was by far her favorite, after living a short time there. She traveled to many countries; England, France, Germany, Switzerland, China, Ireland, Italy, Austria, and Denmark.
Dorothy was a past member of the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society and March of Dimes. She served for many years on the Mayor’s Commission for Disabilities and was given the Certificate of Recognition “2012 Outstanding Member”. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, Les Femmes d’affaires Chapter and was an active member in the 1970’s serving as secretary and program chairperson. One of her passions was working with the local Autism Chapter. She was a member of the Krewe de la Noblesse and was Duchess “My Fair Lady” in An Evening at the Oscars in 2003 and Duchess Goddess of Beauty, in the Midst of the Gods in 1999. She often volunteered at the church and really enjoyed delivering meals to those who were sick.
Family was important to Dorothy. She visited her son and his family out of state as often as possible. She was very proud of her son and his accomplishments and looked forward to his weekly telephone calls. She enjoyed working in the yard, ballroom dancing, and watching Dancing with the Stars, and was always a Dallas Cowboy fan. She was very proud of her heritage and became involved in genealogy.
Dorothy is survived by the light of her life, her one son, Bryan Keith Bowes, and his wife, Michelle, of Severna Park, Md.; three grandchildren, Sophie, Sabrina, and Connor of Severna Park, Md.; one sister, Darlene LeMaster of Katy, Texas; one brother, Michael Malone of Lake Charles; two nieces and a nephew of Lake Charles; and her dear friend and faithful companion for more than 20 years, Dave Meacham of Lake Charles.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John C. Malone Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at First United Methodist Church of Lake Charles. Rev. Weldon Bares will officiate. Interment services will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Tuesday will be from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
