Andrew James Bushnell

Andrew James Bushnell, 30, passed away Dec. 9, 2023, in Gallatin Gateway, Mont. Andrew was born Jan. 15, 1993 in Baton Rouge, La. and later moved with his family to Lake Charles, La., where he attended Immaculate Conception Cathedral School, Saint Louis Catholic High School, and graduated from Alfred M. Barbe High School, Class of 2011.
Andrew was gifted with a radiant smile that made everyone feel welcome. During his school years, Andrew enjoyed playing soccer, baseball, basketball, and running track with his friends. He was also an altar server at Immaculate Conception Cathedral, a certified lifeguard, and was active in the Cub Scouts. Other life long hobbies included drawing, writing, working on cars, music, and traveling.
For the last two years, Andrew enjoyed living in Bozeman, Mont. and working at the Yellowstone Club in Big Sky. He absolutely loved his “Big Sky Family” and everything about Montana. He loved snowboarding the slopes and often shared videos of the beautiful snow filled scenery with family members. During the summer months, Andrew enjoyed hiking, camping, and skydiving. Andrew felt most at peace outdoors and wanted everyone to experience what he had found in Montana.
Andrew is survived by his parents, James “Jimmy” and Mary Bushnell; brother, Thomas Bushnell and paternal grandfather, Elbert “Cotton” Bushnell, all of Lake Charles, La. He is also survived by maternal aunts, Laura McGuire Bennett (Russell), Ann McGuire Melendy and Melissa McGuire Hearn (Tommy); paternal aunts and uncles, Jeanine Guillory Bushnell, Gerald Tod Bushnell (Sherril) and David Bushnell (Jennifer); cousins, Robert Bennett (Sadie), Rachael Bennett Cagle (Adam), Leigh Ann McGuire Ellender (Read), Lance Melendy, Hannah Bennett Johnston (Kyle), Joel Bennett, Camille Bushnell, Anna Bushnell, Luke Cagle, Cody Cagle, Millie Cagle, Addison Melendy, Collin Melendy, and Parker Melendy and his precious cats, Michonne and Puppy Cat, whom brought him great comfort.
Andrew was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Earline McGuire; uncles, Kenneth “Kenny” McGuire Jr. and Lynn Melendy. Paternal grandmother, Mary Jane Bushnell; uncle, Joseph Craig Bushnell and cousin, Aaron Michael Bushnell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Lake Charles, La. on Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. The family would like to thank all friends, including priests and extended family members, who have reached out with prayer and support during this time.
