The National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office said easterly winds are expected to continue into Friday across Southwest Louisiana while precipitation chances will be on the rise through Saturday.

While breezy conditions are expected inland, winds will be highest along the coast and offshore, where gusts of 40-plus mph and waves of up to 12 feet are expected, said meteorologist Donald Jones.

He said severe weather isn’t expected, but periods of heavy rainfall could lead to some nuisance flooding of secondary roadways.

“The good news is that most of the precipitation now looks to be clear of the area by Sunday morning so at least part of the weekend may be salvaged,” Jones said.
