LOWRY – The body of a boater who is believed to have fallen in the Mermentau River on Thanksgiving Day was recovered Tuesday in Cameron Parish.

Steven Iguess, 49, was reported missing Thanksgiving Day after he failed to return home from a deer hunting trip near Rabbit’s Island in Cameron Parish.

Authorities believe Iguess fell overboard after his unmanned aluminum boat was spotted going in circles in the Mermentau River near Lowry.

Extensive search efforts by family members, wildlife and fisheries officials, law enforcement officers and other volunteers have taken place by ground, air and water using sonars, drones, divers and cadaver dogs in an attempt to locate him.

Iguess was a part-time police officer for the Welsh Police Department.
