Gunslinging suspect bites, hits deputies

A Jennings man was arrested Sunday after hitting a Jeff Davis Parish sheriff’s deputy and biting another deputy as they were attempting to arrest him.

Kaleb Istre, 19, was arrested on two counts of resisting an officer with force or violence, battery of a police officer, aggravated battery of a police officer and hunting or discharging of firearms when prohibited. He was also charged with violation of a protective order.

Commander Ramby Cormier said deputies responded to the area of Monger Road and Farm Supply Road around 7:30 a.m. Sunday in regards to someone shooting guns on the roadway.

When deputies arrived they located three individuals, including Istre, he said.

Cormier said as deputies were attempting to arrest Istre, he struck a deputy in the head with a closed fist before biting a second deputy on the arm.

Deputies were able to restrain Istre and place him under arrest.

The deputy who was bitten was treated and released from a local hospital.
