A 61-year-old Lake Charles man is accused of shooting and killing his 33-year-old son-in-law after a family dispute Sunday.
Officers with the Lake Charles Police Department (LCPD) were dispatched to the 600 block of West McNeese Street in reference to a shooting at approximately 12:34 p.m.,
Upon officers’ arrival, they observed a male subject in the driveway area, later identified as Raymond Charles Lastrapes of Lake Charles, suffering from a gunshot wound. Acadian Ambulance arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim as deceased.
LCPD detectives were assigned to this investigation and LCPD evidence officers processed the scene.
Through their initial investigation, detectives say they learned that a verbal altercation between family members occurred. The suspect, identified as James Alan Mueller, retrieved a firearm from inside his residence and shot the victim, who detectives learned was Mueller’s son-in-law, according to LCPD.
Mueller was taken into custody, arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder. His bond was set at $850,000 by Judge Tony Fazzio. He remains in custody at the Calcasieu Correctional Center.
