Iowa blew a 13-point first-half lead and still managed to eke out a 63-62 win over Madison Prep in the quarterfinals of the Hamilton Christian Showdown in the Lake tournament on Friday.

Iowa (1-0) will play Huntington in the semifinals at noon. St. Thomas More will face Wossman at 1:30 p.m. in the other semifinal.

With 1:32 left in the game, Dashawn Ceaser, who led all scorers with 29 points, drilled a 3-pointer to tie the score at 57-57. Victor Fisher’s pair of free throws with 1:09 left gave the Yellow Jackets their first lead since midway through the third quarter.

Iowa had to break two ties in the closing seconds. With 36 seconds left, Josiah Bushnell dribbled along the baseline and hit a reverse layup for a 61-59 lead, and Desamonte Gradney hit a pair of free throws with 20 seconds left for a 63-61 lead.

Madison Prep’s Chris Lindo had a chance to tie the score with 2.4 seconds left but only hit one of two free throws, and D.J. Edmonds’ halfcourt heave missed its target, hitting the backboard.

Iowa opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run, relying on its defense to hold the Chargers scoreless for more than five minutes to surge to a 22-11 lead.

Cameron Washington’s corner three put Iowa up 32-19 with 37 seconds left in the first half, but that lead evaporated just as quickly in the third quarter. Madison Prep used a 15-2 run while Iowa went 0-for-7 to start the second half. Quentin Dabney’s bucket and free throw with 3:29 left in the third quarter gave Madison Prep a 36-34 lead.

Jayce Depron led Madison Prep (1-1) with 16 points.
