Donald Michael Ackel, 90, of Sulphur, La. passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023 at his residence. He was born to his late parents, Alex and Bertha Ackel on March 25, 1933 in Cloutierville, La. He enjoyed hunting coons, raising race horses, and even won a Breeders Cup. 

He is survived by his children, Sam Ackel (Renee) of Carlyss, Daniel Ackel of Westlake, Angie Ackel of Carlyss, Sondra Ackel Schabb (Tom) of Beaumont, Texas, Nathaniel Ackel of Lake Charles, Donald Michael Ackel II (Tori) of San Antonio, Texas, Ky Ackel of New York, Haley Ackel of San Antonio, Texas, Kellie Ackel, Lane Ackel, and Justin Ackel, all of Carlyss; siblings, Dicky Ackel (Ashley), Darlene Wallace (Dr. David), Jackie Ackel Smith, all of Lake Charles, Barry Ackel (Kim), Marie Pittmon, Virginia “Jenny” Eberle, all of Pineville, La., along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Donald is preceded in death by his parents; son, Keith Ackel; two brothers, Bobby and Mike Ackel, and his sister, Sybil Brossette. 

A Celebration of Donald’s life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023 at 2 p.m., with Deacon Patrick LaPoint officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m., with a Rosary at 1 p.m., and the service at 2 p.m. Burial will be at later date.
