Gwendolyn Small Wilson, 82, a loving mother and adoring wife to husband, Edward Wilson, passed away in the early hours of Nov. 12, 2023. Gwendolyn was born on Dec. 26, 1940 to John Small Sr. and Daisy Session Small in New York, NY. She is the youngest of seven siblings. She attended Charles Evans Hughes High School in Manhattan and received a full scholarship to Bellevue and Mills Nursing School in New York. While attending nursing school she met her husband, Edward, in 1959 and later married in 1962. Gwendolyn became a Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse and throughout her years worked in several states. Gwendolyn retired from nursing and state civil service in 2006 after working as a registered nurse since 1960. In her spare time Gwendolyn enjoyed crocheting, reading, and traveling with her family. She always encouraged people to further their education and had a knack for reaching people in a positive way.
Gwendolyn is survived by her husband of 61 years, Edward Wilson of Lake Charles, La.; her daughter, Ann Marie and son-in-law, Darryle of Lake Charles, La. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by all her siblings, Samuel, Rose, Catherine, Vivian, Donald, and John Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday Nov. 17, 2023, at 9 a.m., and funeral service at 11 a.m., at King’s Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Sacred Heart Mausoleum under the direction of King’s Funeral Home. Family, friends and others whose lives Gwendolyn has touched are welcome to attend.
