Andrew  William Cherhoniak

Andrew William Cherhoniak, 69, husband of Colleen (Neary) Cherhoniak, died peacefully on Sept. 11, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Andy was a former resident of Beacon Falls, Conn. and Naugatuck, Conn.

Andy was born July 16, 1954 in Derby, Conn., a son of the late Andrew and Dorothy (Vera) Cherhoniak.  Andy graduated from Laurel Ledge Elementary School, Naugatuck High School and attended electrical classes at Kaynor Tech. While working at Anchor Fasteners, Andy studied and became a Master Electrician. After receiving his Master’s License, he pursued his dream of owning his own company, Current Electrical Systems, LLC, where he worked for 49 years before retiring in 2015. 

Andy enjoyed dancing to swing music and bluegrass. After moving to Louisiana, he also enjoyed Zydeco and country music.  Andy always enjoyed working in his basement on electronics and other projects and he loved sharing his knowledge with his children and friends. In recent years he enjoyed spending time in his garage working on projects with the loves of his life, his twin granddaughters and he loved attending their activities.

In addition to Colleen, his wife of 44 years, of Lake Charles, La, Andy is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Katie and George Cestia of Lake Charles, La.; his son, Mark Cherhoniak of Laguna Hills, Calif.; his granddaughters, Frances and Louise Cestia of Lake Charles, La; his sister, Diane Cherhoniak of Beacon Falls, Conn.; his brother, Gary Cherhoniak and wife, Lisa, of Prospect, Conn.; his sister-in-laws, Margie Neary of Naugatuck, Conn., and Wendi Wright, of Fredricksburg, Va., and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Andy was predeceased by his brothers, Daniel Cherhoniak and Richard Cherhoniak; his sister, Donna Cherhoniak, and brother-in-laws, Richard Neary and Patrick Neary.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Consolata Cemetery followed by interment.  Msgr. Jace Eskind and Msgr. Harry Greig will serve as Celebrants.  A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Naugatuck, Conn. with calling hours held prior to mass at Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck, Conn.
