A couple has been arrested for stealing more than $2,390 worth of items from the Dollar General store in Lacassine.

Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Chris Ivey said deputies were called to the store Tuesday in reference to suspicious circumstances taking place at the store.

An employee of Dollar General, notified police that a man, who appeared to be disoriented and possibly under the influence of drugs, was refusing to pay for items.

The male appeared to be agitated by deputies’ presence and walked outside, he said.

When deputies approached the man to get his identification and verify that he had taken items from the store without paying for them, the man raised his hands reaching for deputies, Ivey said.  A taser was deployed to get the man to comply with deputies and the man was placed in handcuffs.

As deputies were arresting the man, a woman approached and began yelling at the deputies while videoing with her cell phone.

The woman was arrested and patted down at which time deputies found a small baggie.

A K-9 unit later alerted on the couple’s vehicle which was then searched by deputies, according to Ivey. Merchandise believed to have been taken from the store was found inside the vehicle. A store employee took an inventory of the items and advised deputies the items were worth $2,399.29.

Jaela Renee Feverjean, 38, of Lake Arthur was arrested for resisting an officer, interfering with a law enforcement investigation, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and theft over $1,000. Bond was set at  $10,000.
