Sam Houston High School got in another shootout with Carencro in Week 8, only to see the fifth-ranked Bears win 49-47.
With just over a minute remaining, running back Drew Bailey scored his third touchdown of the night on a 9-yard run, but the Bears stopped the potential tying 2-point conversion.
Carencro (8-0, 7-0) recovered the Broncos’ (6-2, 5-2) onside kick attempt and converted a fourth-and-1 with 30 seconds left to run out the clock.
Sam Houston was rolling late in the second quarter when it took a 20-15 lead on a 28-yard pass from Gavin Stout to Cole Flanagan. The Broncos had a chance at taking a two-possession lead but fumbled the ball away and the Bears took a 22-20 lead with 6 seconds left in the first half.
