2 arrested, 1 dead after early Saturday morning shooting

Lake Charles Police have made two arrests in an early Saturday morning shooting that resulted in the death of one man.

Officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Lake Street in reference to a shooting at 4:59 a.m.

Upon their arrival, they learned two subjects were struck by gunfire at the location. One subject was transported by private means to a local hospital for treatment and Acadian Ambulance transported the other subject to a local hospital for treatment.

At about 7:18 a.m. Saturday, 30-year-old Christopher Pattum succumbed to his injuries sustained as a result of the shooting. The remaining victim is in stable condition at a local hospital.

Through obtaining evidence and several witness statements detectives learned a verbal altercation between multiple parties occurred, leading to an exchange of gunfire between two subjects.

Based off evidence collected, detectives obtained two arrest warrants.

An arrest warrant was secured for 24-year-old Damaria Mason, who is charged with one count of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities and one count of illegal carrying of weapon. Judge Clayton Davis signed the warrant and issued a bond of $500,000. Mason was taken into custody at LCPD headquarters just before 11 a.m. Saturday.

An arrest warrant was also secured for 21-year-old Travis Malike Gerald Melbert, who is charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of possession of firearm or carrying concealed weapon by person convicted of certain felonies. Judge Clayton Davis signed the warrant and issued a bond of $1.55 million. Melbert turned himself in to LCPD headquarters and was taken into custody at about 12:30 a.m. onMonday
