Anna Marie Green

Anna Marie Green was born Aug. 22, 1947, to the late Henry Green and Irene K. Green in Lake Charles, La. Anna was a graduate of Washington High School and McNeese State University with a B.A. in English Education and a Minor in Social Studies. Anna Marie continued her studies at McNeese, earning a Masters in Guidance and Counseling and a Masters Plus 30 in Administration and Supervision. She also earned certification in Special Education-Mild/Moderate.
Prior to her teaching career, she served as a teacher’s aide in one of the first computer labs of Calcasieu Parish. Anna Marie was employed by Calcasieu Parish Schools for almost three decades. Her years of service included teaching English and Special Education at the high school and middle school levels. She later had the opportunity to serve as one of Calcasieu Parish’s teachers for the JTPA and Office of Family Services special project from 1990-1998. Anna Marie retired from Calcasieu Parish Schools in 2002, but decided to teach in Port Arthur, Texas for a year and spend time with her aunt. Anna Marie fully retired from education in 2003.
Upon retiring, she became an active member of the Calcasieu Parish Unit of Retired Teachers where she served as First Vice President, Chaplain, and President.
Anna Marie was a very faithful and dedicated member of Old Emmanuel Baptist Church. Jesus was head of her life, and it was readily seen as she served as Vacation Bible School Director and teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Bible Teacher for mid-week services, and Financial Secretary. Anna Marie was also active in the Calcasieu M & E Association and the State Congress of Christian Education.
Anna Marie will live on forever in the hearts of her daughter, Heather Collins (Arnold) of Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Hannah Harris of Houston, Texas; sisters, Christine Mandubourg (George), and Catherine Green, all of Lake Charles, La.; dear cousin, Ivy Harris of Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.
A celebration of Anna Marie’s life will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, at True Light Missionary Baptist Church 1518 Gerstner Memorial Dr., Lake Charles, LA 70601. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by the Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Burial will be immediately following in Old Emmanuel Baptist Church Cemetery.
