Residents asked to create personalized greeting cards for veterans

An easy and affordable way to show appreciation this holiday season for veterans and active military men and women is to send a greeting card.
The VFW Post 2130 and its Auxiliary at 5676 Lake St. at the corner of Ham Reid Road and Lake is making it easy. On Oct. 14, 1 p.m.-5 p.m., they are accepting non-glittered Christmas cards and making some cards available at the Post. That means donating cards, writing messages in donated cards or purchasing and dropping off cards that have messages inside are all acceptable methods for participating.
Cards will be sent to deployed soldiers as part of the Hugs for Soldiers program. HUGS is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support troops serving overseas.
Last year HUGS collected 4,000 boxes of holiday greeting cards for local veteran nursing facilities and to send overseas.
Deadline to drop off written cards is Nov. 1 to allow ample time for shipping overseas. To find out more call 337-540-7439.
