MOSS BLUFF — There was a battle between top five teams Thursday night at Sam Houston High School.
Division I No. 2 Sam Houston won the first two sets 25-16, 25-19, but Division II St. Thomas More won the next three 25-23, 25-21, 15-10 to take the match.
The loss ended a nine-match win streak for Sam Houston (19-4), while St. Thomas More improve to 17-1.
Kat Manuel (38 assists, 10 digs), Aubrie Portie (11 kills, 18 digs) and Ava Henry (13 kills, 16 blocks) had double-doubles for the Broncos.

Barbe stayed perfect at home with a three-set win over St. Louis Catholic (5-12) at S.J. Welsh Middle School.
The Bucs (9-7) won 25-21, 25-11, 25-13 to improve to 4-0 at home. Barbe has won five its last seven matches.
Barbe senior Rory Boyd (8 kills, 13 digs) sophomore Kennedi Burks (9 kills, 12 digs) nearly had a double-doubles.

LAFAYETTE — Iowa dropped a straight-set nondistrict match on Thursday at Division III No. 3 Lafayette Christian (18-4) 25-12, 25-11, 25-14.
Briley Matt had three kills for the Yellow Jackets, Alivia Singletary was credited with six assists and Leyton Matt made nine digs.
