Prep football summaries, Sept. 28 — DeQuincy gets first win, Oakdale takes first loss

Week 5 of the prep football season started with some firsts Thursday night as DeQuincy won its first game, while Oakdale took its first loss.

DeQUINCY — DeQuincy ended a five-game losing streak Thursday and beat Rosepine for the first time since the regional round of the Class 2A playoffs in 2018.

DeQuincy (1-4) held the Eagles (2-3) to 114 yards of total offense and forced them to punt or fumble the ball on their first four possessions.

DeQuincy Kohen Cormier kicked his first field goal of the season to breakup a scoreless game, and Clifford Joyce caught an 8-yard pass from Carson Rainwater for a 9-0 halftime lead.

Wyatt Lavergne ran for 89 yards on 20 carries for DeQuincy, and Rainwater completed 6 of 10 passes for 91 yards.

St. Edmund 30

Oakdale 20

EUNICE — Oakdale (4-1) entered the game 4-0 for the first time since 2007, but St. Edmund (4-1) built up an early lead on a pair of touchdown passes by Kane West to Blake Moran (18 yards) and Seth Aucoin (48 yards) in the first quarter.

Oakdale made it a one possession game on a 2-yard run by Derrick Green with 9:56 left in the second quarter, but the Blue Jays counted with a 51-yard touchdown reception by Blake Moran a minute and a half later and a 22-yard run by KeVon Johnson in the third quarter.

West completed 9 of 17 passes for 203 yard and three touchdowns, and Johnson ran for 165 yards on 33 carries.

Elijah Anderson scored twice for the Warriors in the second half on a 32-yard punt return and 40 reception from Deekota Johnson.

Grand Lake 28

East Beauregard 14

GRAND LAKE — Grand Lake senior Ian Vigo ran for a season-high 226 yards Thursday to lead the Hornets (3-2) to their third consecutive win over the Trojans in as many seasons.

Vigo averaged 15.1 yards a carry and scored the tying touchdown in the third quarter. Brycen Guillory scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 3-yard carrie in the fourth quarter.

East Beauregard’s (2-3) Caleb Johnson scored on runs of 15 and 45 yards in the first half to put the Trojans up 14-7.
