Curtiss Joseph Newman, 78, of Lake Charles passed away Tuesday, Sept.19, 2023 at his residence.  Curtiss was born in Sulphur, La. on Oct. 4, 1944 to Eulice and Eliza Newman and was raised in the Lake Charles area where he worked in the construction industry as an insulator and a painter.  He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter; Stephanie Cherie Newman of Pensacola, Fl., sister; Joyce Newman Cooper of Lake Charles, grandchildren; Canyon Joseph Johnson and Zoey Elizabeth Johnson of Pensacola, Fl., Step-daughters; Michelle Castel of Lake Charles and Monica Prochazka of Houston, Texas., step grandchildren, Emily Britt and Mary Prochazka of Houston, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; Linda Bertrand Newman, brothers; Raleigh Newman, Elton J. Thibodeaux, Clifford Newman, Roland Newman and Terry Newman.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St., Lake Charles, La. 70605.  Visitation will continue Friday from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, at 1 p.m. at St. Martin DePorres Catholic Church, 5495 Elliott, Rd. Lake Charles, La. 70605.  Entombment will immediately follow the Mass at Consolata Cemetery.
