It took almost the entire game against Florida, but McNeese State was able to get into the end zone.

Colby Hamm raced in from 8 yards out in the closing minutes to put the Cowboys on the board. While the rest of the night belonged to the Gators, Hamm enjoyed his moment.

“To get a chance to play a Power Five and get a score, it is a great feeling,” Hamm said. “It is a dream to be able to play in those games and got score a touchdown is a great feeling.”

McNeese (0-2) hopes the feel-good ending puts it on the right track heading into Saturday’s game at Alcorn State (0-2). The Cowboys might be able to use the speed of the Florida game moving forward as they look for their first victory.

“They were very fast,” Cowboys defense back Jaylen Jackson said of Florida. “It did show that we have to work hard to make plays.”

The Cowboys saw how the game is played at a much faster pace than they are used to. Forced to adapt, the Cowboys say they want to stay with that intensity and style.

“That was playing against a different animal,” said quarterback Nate Glantz. “That was a different level to play against.

“But we can take that and get better. I think we are close to breaking out.”
