The American Press asked Calcasieu Parish Police Jury candidates to answer the same two-part question to help voters in their districts make up their minds on Saturday, Oct. 14. The question: ‘If you are limited to accomplishing only one goal if you are elected to office, what is the one thing you would like to accomplish, and how would you do it?’

Here are the responses from Police Jury District 9 candidates:

Anthony Bartie

My goal is to be able to accomplish more than one thing during a four-year term, but if I had to choose one, it would be to solve area residents’ concerns on the intersection of Highway 14 and Corbina Road.

I was elected Police Juror of District 9 four years ago and during this first term I have received more phone calls from residents concerning vehicle accidents at the intersection of Highway 14 and Corbina Road.  Highway 14 is a state highway, any improvements, changes, or solutions to this intersection fall under the authority of DOTD.

I have been in communication with DOTD, our state Senator and Representative about the concerns our residents have for this intersection.  DOTD does have plans for this intersection that would make it safer and ease the concerns of our residents.  My hope and challenge is that with the help of our local delegation we can move this project up the priority line with DOTD.

District 9 is one of our fastest growing areas.  Growth and development put a strain on our infrastructure and add to our traffic count.  We must reduce the accident count at this intersection and with all hands-on deck, our Senators, State Representatives and Jury I know we can get this item moved up the priority list.

Felicia Frank

Although, it is my hope to complete more than one goal within my first term.  If I am limited to accomplishing one goal while serving, it will be to cultivate real relationships.  I will actively work on establishing and developing partnerships within the Police Jury and the Community.  Cultivating these important partnerships with the other fourteen Police Jurors will be my top priority.  One juror cannot complete any real goal without the help and support from my fellow Police Jurors..  The action of connecting resources leads to connecting people, which is the beginning stage of coming together on projects that will improve the quality of life for the people in Calcasieu Parish along with District 9. Whether it’s collaborating on developing projects to fix our roads, storm preparedness, improving long-term drainage/sewer issues, expanding the library system, supporting housing organizations or streamlining the parish assistance programs; all will not be possible, if the groundwork is not achieved together! Cultivating real relationships, connecting people and collaborating on projects is how we get it done.
