Three mandatory evacuations remain in place in Beauregard Parish — the Pitkin area, Ernest Thompson Road and DeStephens Road. A voluntary evacuation continues for the Junction community and residents on Ragle Road.
The Red Cross is on hand to assist with a shelter now open for evacuees at 1382 Gravel Hill Baptist Church Road.
Beauregard Parish Sheriff Mark Herford said as the Tiger Island Fire continues, most of the concentration remains in the northwest portion of the area because the area continues to hold heat.
“The northeast section will be improving their bulldozer lines to allow engines to get back so water can be better delivered where needed,” Herford said.
He said the southeast and southwest sections of the fire “looks good” as firefighters continue to improve lines while patrolling for hotspots.
“Overall there has been no new significant movement or growth in the Tiger Island Fire,” Herford said in his daily Facebook post.
The fire, first reported on Aug. 22, continues to be 50 percent contained.
Herford said a campsite fire Wednesday night was quickly kept under control and kept from spreading.
Also on Wednesday a small fire “popped up” along the HB Hickman Road and was contained quickly.
