Two students were arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center, charged with menacing by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Spokesperson Kayla Vincent said their office received two calls in reference to threats of shooting on Monday. These threats were separate events.
The first was a threat to LaGrange High School.
Vincent said detectives found that a 15-year-old used social media to send the threat during investigations.
Similarly, a 16-year-old sent a threatening message with social media to a peer at Sulphur High School on social media.
Both juveniles were interviewed by detectives with a guardian present before being arrested and booked.
Vincent said the Calcasieu Parish School Board assisted CPSO with both investigations.
CPSB stated on their Facebook page that the threatening behavior towards Sulphur High’s main campus occurred overnight.
“This situation has been taken very seriously and has been fully investigated by both the Calcasieu Parish School Board and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. An arrest was made by the Sheriff’s Office overnight. The safety of faculty, staff and students will always be our No. 1 priority. We want to assure parents and guardians that our campuses are safe places for students, and that will always be our primary focus.”
