Roland Sarvaunt, 76, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 24, 2023 at a local hospice center.
Roland was a native and life long resident of Lake Charles. He honorably and faithfully served two tours of duty in Vietnam before returning to the lake area to work as a roofing contractor. He retired in 2000 and enjoyed helping others and lending a hand to anyone in need. He was of the Christian faith and loved handing out study bibles and encouraged them to read them. He also enjoyed fishing, restoring antique and vintage cars, riding his motorcycle, playing poker and especially growing plants and trees, with his faithful rottweiler, Tassie, to help him water them.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Raphael Sarvaunt and Orlean Broussard Gary and sister Sylvia Sarvaunt. Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 35 years, Candace Anderson Sarvaunt, Lake Charles; children, Russell Oscar Sarvaunt, Melissa Sarvaunt, Eric Sarvaunt, and Laura Doucet; siblings, Dale Sarvaunt (Sylva Zubia), Sheila Sarvaunt, Sandra Miller, Cathy Hurst (Alton), Jeanette Gueringer (James), Johnny Gary (Cathy); sister-in-law, Pamela Anderson Zerr (Tim); numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family of the heart.
A special word of gratitude is expressed to Roland’s brother Dale and his companion Sylva Zubia for all the help that they have been to Roland and Candace during Roland’s illness and beyond. Although Roland never wanted to ask anyone for help, Dale has always been there for him unconditionally.
As to his wishes, there will be no formal services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
