The Calcasieu Parish School Board is handling several incidents of potentially threatening behavior that were reported overnight towards some of our campuses.

“Every case is being taken very seriously and is being fully investigated by CPSB and law enforcement,” spokesperson Holly Holland said in a voice recording sent out to parents at 6 a.m. this morning. “Any person, including students, making threatening comments, writings, or actions towards any of our schools will be met with immediate action by law enforcement and disciplinary action allowed under Calcasieu Parish School Board policy.”

As of 6:33 a.m., Holland the schools involved are Barbe High, LaGrange High, Washington-Marion High, Oak Park Middle, Oak Park Elementary, and Brentwood Elementary.

“Please know that this is a very fluid situation, and it is possible that schools could be added to this list at a later time,” Holland said.

Holland said the safety of students, faculty, and staff will always be the No. 1 priority.

“We want to assure parents and guardians that our campuses are safe places for students, and that will always be our primary focus,” she said.

Additional law enforcement support will be present this week around the district as needed, Holland said.

“We have a zero tolerance when it comes to threatening harm to other students along with the faculty at our schools in Calcasieu Parish.  It is not something that is taken lightly,” Sheriff Tony Mancuso said. “Every threat will be investigated and arrests will be made when warranted.”
