Alva Cecil Day

Alva Cecil Day, 95, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023 in his residence.
He was a native of Haughton and had been a resident of the Sulphur-Lake Charles area for over 70 years. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of Henning Memorial United Methodist Church and had served as Scout Master with the Calcasieu Area Council-BSA. Cecil was an avid photographer and also enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with is family.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Berna Landreneau Day of Lake Charles; his son, Dean Day and wife, Hilda Marie Perkins Day of Lake Charles; his step-children, James Bushnell and wife, Jerri of Rayne and Anna Frey and husband, Blane of Eunice; seven grandchildren, David Daniel Day, Michael Joseph Day, Stephen Matthew Day, Lindsey Armentor Dehart, Beau Armentor, Quinten James Sonnier, and Julius Paul Sonnier; and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Verna Lee Rader Day; his parents, Ernest Wyman Day and Alva Bernice Coon Day; and his siblings, Ernest Wyman Day, Jr, Robert Marion Day, Lucille Fern Day, and Leslie Henry Day.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 14, in Henning Memorial United Methodist Church. The Rev. Juliet Spencer will officiate. Burial will be in Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. and will resume in the church on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
