The Iowa Straw Poll for Louisiana’s Republican gubernatorial candidates will take place on Saturday, Aug. 19, from noon to 4 p.m., at the Iowa High School Gym.

Each of the five Republican candidates in the 2023 Louisiana governor’s race will speak in an effort to boost their campaigns through election day in October.

This is the second Iowa, La., straw poll, which pays homage to the state of Iowa’s straw poll, which is the first presidential primary in the U.S. presidential election every four years.

The Iowa Straw Poll in Louisiana is held to help determine a clear front-runner in the GOP for the governor’s race. Louisiana’s open primary system places all candidates on one ballot regardless of political party. The poll gives idea of which Republican candidate will prevail in the primary election, much like the closed primaries do for Presidential races.
