Sweat equity: Pilgrim Baptist Church members work for glory of God

I Peter 4:10-11 says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever.” (NIV).

At Pilgrim Baptist Church, the men have a special gift. They know the value of hard work and don’t mind sacrificing their time. They are also teaching the boys how to serve others, how to use equipment, how to use their physical strength to share or get under a load and how to grow in spirit.

A group spent a sweaty Saturday morning taking down a few trees for elderly widows who do not attend their church. Work began as soon as the sun came up.

When asked to give their names, the pastor said, “That’s not important. That’s not why we do it.”

Another church member added, “It’s about teaching the young men the importance of chasing the things of God instead of the things of this world. We sweat for his glory.”
