Sulphur, Lake Charles and DeRidder and Iowa will host National Night Out events Tuesday, August 1. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
Sulphur hosted its first NNO in 2008, and attendance has grown significantly from a few hundred participants to more than 1,000. Head out to the West Cal Cam Arena from 6-8 p.m. Admission is free. Enjoy music, classic cars, free food and drink. Kids love seeing and climbing on the emergency response vehicles. Help decide who the best jambalaya cook is.
In Lake Charles, the NNO event will be held from 6-9 p.m.
Admission is free and participants will have the chance to judge not only the best jambalaya, but also the best pastalaya. Free resources, kids zone, traffic motorcycles, free popcorn, cotton candy and free, but limited food and drinks. Enjoy giveaways, displays and more at the Lake Charles Civic Center.
“Our National Night Out Community Event provides citizens with the opportunity to meet and interact with officers from our many divisions in one location, while gathering important information about a variety of resources available to them,” said Lake Charles Police Chief Shawn Caldwell. “It’s a chance for us to hear citizen concerns and allows us to build stronger police-community relationships.”
In DeRidder, the NNO event will be from 5-8:30 p.m. at the Beauregard Parish Fairgrounds in DeRidder. This is a free, community-police event that will feature fun for all ages. There will be games, music, cash prizes, food trucks, vendors, a car show, tug-of-war, a working dog demonstration and fireworks. Find more information on the DeRidder Police Department’s page.
The Iowa event will take place 6-8 p.m. at the Iowa Community Center, 207 W. Hwy. 90. Fun, food, DJ, vendors.
