Ellen “Virgie” Marcantel

Ellen “Virgie” Marcantel passed into the arms of her Savior after a brief illness on Friday, July 21, 2023 in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family. Virgie was born on September 30, 1931 in Sulphur, La. On Sundays, you would always find her at Magnolia Baptist Church, which her father took part in establishing. Over the years, she devoted her life to serving on various church committees, including teaching Sunday School and leading VBS. Her door was always open to company, which included a cup of coffee. She loved spending time with her family and celebrating life events and milestones with them. She was known to all as a kind, intelligent, fun loving, and faithful woman. 

Virgie is survived by her five children, Connie Roley of Orange, Texas, Mike Marcantel of Las Vegas, Nev., Janice Breaux of Vinton, La., Karen and husband Billy Deville of Carencro, La., and Julie and husband Joel Schweers of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Andrea Wells, Robbyn Wells, Justin Holst, Derrick Marcantel, Tara Selser, Angela Breaux, David Breaux, Blake Deville, Kylie Deville, Lauren Schweers, and Nicholas Schweers. Virgie was loved by her 26 great grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews who loved and cared for her. 

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Huey Marcantel; her parents, Valery and Dorothy LeDoux; infant son, Huey Eugene; sister and brother-in-law, Sal and Lucius Marcantel; along with her brother and sister-in-law, Oley and Gloria LeDoux.

The family would like to thank her Nurses, Ginger and Stacy, and her aide, Victoria for the loving care during her illness.

Virgie will be dearly missed in our hearts but will remain forever in our memories. 

A Celebration of Virgie’s life will be held at Magnolia Baptist Church in Vinton, La. on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at 2 p.m., with The Rev. Jim Thorn officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home in Vinton, La. on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will resume at Magnolia Baptist Church in Vinton (Big Woods), La. on Sunday, from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Big Woods Cemetery in Vinton, La. 

Pallbearers will be: Justin Holst, David Breaux, Blake Deville, Derrick Marcantel, Nicholas Schweers, Deven LeDoux, and Tommy LeDoux. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Brian LeDoux, Bo Marcantel, and Jerkie Marcantel.
