Barbara Theresa Scanlon, 82, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023, in a local hospital. 

She was a native of Opelousas and had been a resident of Sulphur for over 60 years.  Barbara was a school teacher briefly at Our Lady’s School and then she taught at Leblanc Junior High School for almost  30 years. She enjoyed singing in the choir, clogging, traveling all around the world, and most of all she enjoyed spending time with loved ones. 

Survivors include her husband of over 40 years, Mike Scanlon of Sulphur; son, Bret Dronet of Fairview, Texas; son, Neil Dronet and wife Diane, of Lucas, Texas; along with 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. 

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 28, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur. The Rev. Tim Goodly will officiate. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from  5-8 p.m. Thursday with a rosary service at 6 p.m. and from 8:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
