An elderly woman who was beaten and sexually assaulted last week in her home on Caroline Street has died.

Lake Charles Police Chief Shawn Caldwell said the investigation has transition to a homicide investigation.

The victim has been identified as 75-year-old Sherry Vincent of Lake Charles.

Deputy Chief Franklin Fondel told the American Press last week that Vincent was found severely beaten and sexually assaulted late Wednesday night in the 2900 block of Caroline Street.

She was transported to a local hospital via ambulance before being transported to a hospital out of town for further treatment.
