Ann Rose Meaux passed away peacefully on July 9, 2023 surrounded by her loving family at the Guardian Nursing home, which had been her home since 2019.  Ann was born in New Orleans on September 25, 1941. She graduated from Ursuline Academy, then Loyola University in Education.  

Ann took a trip one weekend to Grand Chenier with her future sister-in law and met her beloved, J.B.  They fell in love and married in 1966. Ann moved across the state from city to country to the place she called home for 40 years, Grand Chenier, and raised her family there. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. After her two sons, Jimmy and Mike, were born, she stayed home to raise them and became a substitute teacher in English and other subjects at South Cameron Elementary. She was of Catholic faith and became a catechism teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Creole for 30 years, teaching first communion to many youth. Ann was a member of the Creole Home Demonstration Club, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a supporter of 4-H and FFA youth. Later in life Ann began to take after her late father began painting. She made beautiful painting of flowers, people, animals, and various scenes. 

After hurricane Rita, Ann and JB resided in Ragley and she attended St Pius X Catholic Church.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Moss Bluff and she continued painting. She was a constant inspiration to everyone who knew her, she never had a harsh word to say about anyone or anything, and all will remember her positive attitude and smiling face. 

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Jeanne Van Geffen and grandson Brody Meaux.  

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 57 years John (J.B.) Meaux, sons Jimmy (JoAnn) Meaux of LeBleu Settlement and Dr. Mike (Kim) Meaux of Ragley, granddaughters Kerrigan and Brenlyee Meaux, sister Kathy (Dick) Gsottschneider of Durham, New Hampshire, brother Dr. Jack (Laura) Van Geffen of Annapolis, Maryland, sister-in law Jimmie Ann (Rodney) McLean of Grand Chenier and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Dr. Yoko Broussard, the Guardian Nursing home and Harbor Hospice nursing staff, especially Miss Mary for their compassionate care over the years and the final few weeks.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at J.E. Hixson Funeral Home with a Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume at 8 a.m. on Friday. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023 with  The Rev. Jeffrey Starkovich officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Hixson Funeral Home.
