Summer fun idea: Coushatta Powwow demonstration

Published 1:36 pm Friday, July 7, 2023

Xavier Littlehead served as the head man dancer during the 26th annual Coushatta Powwow at the Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder. More than 100 dancers, drummers, artists and cooks from various tribes throughout the United States and Canada participated in the two-day event to celebrate their culture.

Families are invited to a one-of-a-kind experience with performers from the Coushatta Tribe as they discuss the history behind a Powwow.

Coushatta dancers will dress in full regalia while dancing to the beat of drums and their native songs.

The demonstration will take place 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the Moss Bluff Library, located at 261 Parish Road.

The program is free and open to all ages.  A library card is not needed to attend library programming.
