The Southwest Louisiana coaching carousel looks as if it is coming to a stop.

Brad Kellogg was hired to take over the South Beauregard Golden Knights football program.

Thirteen area schools will sport new head coaches when the season kicks off in September.

Kellogg spent the last four seasons as defensive coordinator at Westlake High School.

It is his first head coaching job since a four-year stint from 2007 to 2010 at his former high school, DeQuincy, where he compiled a 22-19 record and a pair of playoff appearances.

 

SCORELESS STREAK: Former Sulphur High and Rice standout and Florida Marlins relief pitcher J.T. Chargois extended his scoreless innings streak on Sunday.

He tossed a scoreless inning in a 6-3 loss to Atlanta by striking out Travis d’Arnaud and getting Marcell Ozuna and Eddie Rosario to ground out.

Chargois has pitched 52/3 innings without giving up an earned run. He hasn’t allowed an earned run since June 13 and has lowered his earned run average from 4.61 to 3.54.

Chargois is 1-0 with one save in 15 strikeouts in 201/3 innings.

 

IN THE MINORS: Connor Cooke, a relief pitcher for the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, earned his third save of the season on Saturday.

Cooke pitched a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts to close out a 3-0 win over the Portland Sea Dogs at Delta Dental Stadium.

Cooke, who played at Sulphur and helped lead the Tors to the 2018 Class 5A final, is 1-1 with a 3.81 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 26 innings.

In 2021, Cooke earned first-team all-Sun Belt Conference and first-team all-Louisiana honors with Louisiana-Lafayette.
