Jennings teen arrested in June 4 Lake Charles shooting

An 18-year-old Jennings man has been arrested in a June 4 shooting that occurred at about 1:16 a.m. in the area of the intersection of McNeese and Common streets.

Officers with the Lake Charles Police Department were dispatched to the area in response to a call regarding shots fired.

Officers arrived in the area, observed shell casings on the roadway, and learned that one victim was transported to a local hospital by private means. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released from the hospital later the same day.

LCPD detectives were assigned to this investigation and through the course of their investigation obtained evidence revealing that two vehicles were exchanging gunfire in the intersection.

On Thursday, June 15, detectives secured an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Cory Jaden Gatte of Jennings.

He is charged with one count of illegal use of weapon or dangerous instrumentalities and one count of assault by drive-by shooting. Judge Tony Fazzio set bond at $300,000.

On Wednesday, June 28, LCPD SWAT officers and officers with the Jennings Police Department served the arrest warrant on Gatte in the 400 block of Mouton Drive. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Jeff Davis Parish Jail for processing. He was later booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center where he remains in custody.
