Arrest made in traffic fatality

An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal accident that happened on Sunday, June 4.

That Sunday morning, at 3:29 a.m. officers with the Lake Charles Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Common and Bienville streets in reference to a two-vehicle crash.

As a result of this crash, 19-year-old Kara Lemons of Lake Charles succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2018 Ford 150 pickup truck, driven by 21-year-old Adrian Gutierrez, Jr., was traveling northbound on Common Street. As the pickup truck approached the intersection of Bienville and Common Streets, it struck the 2006 Toyota Matrix driven by Lemons.

A search warrant was obtained for toxicology testing as part of the investigation. Further investigation revealed the vehicle being driven by Gutierrez, Jr., was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for one count of vehicular homicide on Monday, June 5,. Bond was set by Judge Tony Fazzio in the amount of $150,000.

On Thursday, June 22, at 5:39 p.m., Adrian Gutierrez, Jr., was arrested by the US Marshals Service in the 1600 block of Thompson Road in Mission, Texas. He is being held in the Hidalgo County Jail, awaiting extradition back to Calcasieu Parish.

This remains an ongoing investigation. Sgt. Shaun Touchet with the LCPD Traffic Division is the lead investigator.
