Say hello to “Hello, Dolly!” This is the final weekend to “hear the band playin’ and feel the room swayin.” This enduring musical comedy will be performed by the ACTS Theatre Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 23-25.
These three shows also represent the last production of ACTS’ 55th year, according to Michael Ieyoub. He’ll be playing the “grumpy but nice, set-in-his-ways half-a-millionaire Horace Vandergelder, the guy for whom Dolly is making a match.
The play is based on Thornton Wilder’s farce,” The Matchmaker,” and tells the story of the effusive Dolly Levi who connects, meddles and negotiates everyone’s perfect match.
“I’m not really having to do much acting,” Ieyoub said. “That’s pretty much me everyday, grumpy but nice.”
Dolly will be played by Sarah Broussard. For Broussard it’s a dream role for which she has been preparing all her life.
“She’s been singing the songs since she was a kid and loves Barbara Streisand,” Ieyoub said. In 1969, Steisand was cast in the first movie version of the Broadway Musical.
ACTS went all out on the costumes for the show — fashion reminiscent of 1890s New York that includes brightly colored dresses, hats, parasols, feathers, silk cravats and patent leather — in keeping with one of the show’s songs, “Put on Your Sunday Best.”
Theater-goers can dress up or down to see the production, a great way to leave the cares of the world behind, sit in the cool, laugh, toe tap, sing along and not “return home until they fall in love” with “Hello, Dolly!”
The show also features actors Kyle Brunner, Cameron Guillory, Allison Schnake, Rebecca Holt, Crystal Collins-Molitor, Kim Thibodeaux, Cameron Fultz, Mark Hebert, Jacob Voisin.
Of course, part of what makes “Hello, Dolly!” a hit is the music. The actors and ensemble have been hard at work to create the magic of this favorite Broadway Musical.
Erica Barrios, Jenny Bruner, Meagan Clement, Julia Dyer, Lauren Fontenot, Olivia Kirkland, Randilyn Lejeune Trinitee Thibodeaux, John Paul Timpa, Ashley Vidrine, Veronica Welch, Kerry Wilson and Amanda Yellott make up the ensemble.
Jenny Brunner is musical director and Lauren Fontenot is choreographer.
Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday matinee is at 3 p.m. 1 Reid St. in Lake Charles. Seniors pay $20. Adults, $25. Students over 18, $15, under 18, $10.
