Heat advisory remains in effect through Tuesday

An excessive heat advisory remains in effect through Tuesday with some “slight relief” expected on Wednesday.
“Wednesday will also mark the return of scattered showers and thunderstorms across the area,” said Donald Jones, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office.
Jones said temperatures are expected to be in the mid-90s Monday and Tuesday, but the heat index values are expected to be between 108-115.
These dangerous heat index values could bring about heat exhaustion or heat stroke, Jones said. Heat stroke can cause death or permanent disability if emergency treatment is not given. Residents are advised to avoid strenuous activity and prolonged time outside, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and drink plenty of water. Do not leave children or pets in vehicles.
“Take your heat precautions seriously while out and about,” Jones said.
The excessive heat advisory — now in its fifth day — will be in effect 11 a.m.-7 p.m. both days.
