Linda Anderson Roan, 83, died on Monday, May 29, 2023, at her residence, peacefully in her sleep after battling a lengthy illness.

Born in Vernon, Texas to Fred and Juanita Anderson, Linda grew up in Texas City, Texas. Linda attended and graduated from Texas City High School where she was a drum major for the Stingray Marching Band. She attended the University of Texas in Austin. She moved to Galveston, Texas and worked in the medical field. It was here that she met the love of her life, Wylie. They married on Nov. 24, 1962, and moved to Lake Charles in 1966. She “worked” as a homemaker with the birth of her son, Eric, in 1967 and continued in this full-time position until his graduation from high school in 1985. At this time, she began her second career in life starting off as a job developer with JTPA for the Louisiana Department of Labor, helping to place unemployed persons with gainful employment. From here, she went to work for CARC of Southwest Louisiana as a job developer, working with special needs adults. In this position, she matched special needs applicants with employers for specific jobs tailored to the skills of the special needs adult. She found this job to be extremely rewarding professionally and, on a personal note, whenever she was able to provide a special needs person with the ability to be employed, earn money, gain self-worth, and to live independently. In the early 90’s, Linda found her true passion and studied to become a licensed real estate agent. After earning her license, she accepted a position with Flavin Realty. She worked for Flavin Realty in this position for 21 years until her retirement in 2012. During the span of her real estate career, she was a top producer for Flavin Realty for multiple years earning recognition with distinguished realtor awards. Linda was a faithful member of St. Michael and All Angels Church, having served as the President of the Women of the Church and as member of the Vestry.

Linda’s true passion in life was her family. If she wasn’t shopping at Big Lots or other local discount stores, she would be seen at all her grandsons’ events all the way up until her passing.  Linda had a smile that would light up a room and a laugh that was contagious to a fault. She had an unparalleled memory and would often regale many with detailed specific recollections from the past. Linda was a friend and confidant to many, and often dispensed advice to all whether it was requested or not. She faced her illness with a strength that was both inspiring and uplifting. She lived life on her own terms all the way up until her final days.

Mrs. Roan is survived by her son Eric Wylie Roan and daughter-in-law, Charlotte Roan; her grandsons, Quinton Wylie Roan, and Collin James Roan, all of Lake Charles; her sister, Patricia Galanter of New York City, N.Y.; many nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Perry Wylie Roan, and her brother, Fredrick “Freddie” Anderson.

Memorial Services will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Andrew Christiansen will officiate. Visitation will be at the Church from 11 a.m. until the start of the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to St. Michaels and All Angels Church, 123 West Sale Road, Lake Charles, LA 70605.

The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given to Linda from Dr. Benjamin Azevedo, Dr. Christine Dugan, the entire nursing staff at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit, the Verandah staff and residents, Davita Dialysis nurses, Heart of Hospice nursing staff, and her personal caretakers Tracey Ozone, Sophie January, Dorothy Linscomb, Pam Guillory, and a special thanks to her friend, Mrs. Leighann Thibodeaux. The family is also grateful to Linda’s many friends that supported her during her illness.
