Thanks to 15 agents from Keller Williams Realty Lake Charles, the new palm trees at Millenium Park have been refreshed.

On Thursday, May 11, KWLC celebrated RED Day. This is a company wide annual day of service hosted by Keller Williams, which has locations on five continents.

On RED Day, every Keller Williams location devotes an entire day to volunteering within their communities.

“The purpose of RED DAY is to make a positive impact in the community and demonstrate Keller Williams’ commitment to giving back,” said Kashia Gaspard, assistant team leader with KWLC and Keller Williams Realty Acadiana.

RED Day celebrated the birthday of Mo Anderson, a Keller Williams board member and “passionate builder and champion of our culture,” she said.

The day of service began company-wide in 2009. KWLC has participated since they opened their doors in 2012.

Culture is an important aspect of Keller Williams, Gaspard said. The pillars of this culture are Renew, Energize and Donate.

“We see our culture as the core differentiator to everything we do,” said Carl Liebert, CEO of Keller Williams, in a statement. “RED Day marks a singular moment each year where we pause and amplify the core beliefs we live out every day through service in our communities.”

These principals run deep in the Lake Charles location. “Volunteering in the communities where we live energizes and renews us and our community,” said Gaspard. “Giving back is in our DNA and is what fulfills us.”

This year, the agents and leadership at KWLC visited Millenium Park to weed and mulch around the new palm trees that were replanted after the hurricanes of 2020.

KWLC partnered with SWLA Responds in this endeavor. SWLA Responds is a local faith-based non profit organization that was formed as a response to the storms, and guided KWLC’s volunteer priorities.

“We noticed Braylon Harris’ outstanding contributions to our community,” Gaspard explained.  “By combining our efforts, we were able to address the needs identified by SWLA Responds and provide the necessary manpower.”

Last year, KWLC gave away free live oak trees in an effort to replant areas heavily affected by the hurricanes. In the past, they have also beautified local residential properties and raised money for charities.

For Gaspard and those at KWLC, dedicating time to volunteering is vital. “It allows us agents to contribute our time and skills to help others, build relationships and make a positive difference,” she said. “It makes me and our agents feel fulfilled, purposeful and satisfied knowing that we are making a positive impact in our community.”

It also served as a great team-building exercise, she said. “The memories we make are priceless.”
