Elizabeth “Aunt Lib” Joyce Fugatt

Elizabeth “Aunt Lib” Joyce Fugatt, 84, of Lake Charles, La., passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at her residence. She was born to her late parents, H.R. and Willa Perry on April 4, 1939, in Sulphur, La. Aunt Lib enjoyed playing the piano and the organ, and taught piano in her early years. Aunt Lib was the organist at Wesley United Methodist for 49 1/2 years. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, and visiting with her friends and family. In addition, she loved watching college football and baseball which meant the world to her. Most of all, she loved and was proud her large family more than anything, which included 21 sets of aunts and uncles, and 75 first cousins. Aunt Lib was able to enjoy the Hoffpauir Good Friday picnic that has been held since 1890 before her passing. Elizabeth was known for her laughter, kindness, and sweet spirit.
She is survived by her children, Rachel Fugatt (Tee) of Austin, Texas, John Fugatt (Judi) of Berthoud, Colo., and Paul Fugatt (JoAnna) of Sulphur, La.; six grandchildren, Steven Fugatt, Nadia Fugatt, Devin Shaheen, John Fugatt, Seth Miller and Eli Miller; along with two great-grandchildren, Emma Elizabeth Fugatt and Noah Fugatt.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; along with her two brothers, Jack Perry and Gerald Perry.
A Celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held at First United Methodist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Steffanie Pace officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, La., on Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will resume at First United Methodist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana on Friday, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Sulphur, Louisiana.
