JENNINGS — It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel “Buddy” Myers announces his passing on Friday, April 21, 2023, in the comfort of his home at the age of 84.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jennings, La. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Iota, La., with Father Susil Fernando officiating.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023, in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. in the chapel. Visitation will resume on Tuesday at 8 a.m. until the time to depart for church at 9:30 a.m.
Buddy was born on Nov. 19, 1938, to Teolea and Amelia Myers in Estherwood. After attending school at Egan High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force on Feb. 17, 1956, where he served for 20 years until retiring. He married Frances Guilbeau on Feb. 8, 1958. Together they traveled the country to various military bases where they made their homes and raised their three children.
After retiring from the Air Force, Buddy worked at Jennings Manufacturing Company and Jansen’s in Eunice as a sewing machine technician. He also owned and operated Buddy’s Sewing Machine Repair at his home for many years.
Buddy was a well-known, gifted vocalist and musician, fluent in bass guitar, lead guitar, and drums. He began playing music in his teens and continued entertaining until just a few years ago. Coming back to his roots after retirement from the military, he had a band with his sons named Crystal Blue. Over the years, he played bass with Buford Galley, Nathan Menard, Geno Thibodeaux, Chris Miller, Walter Mouton, Felton Lejeune, Carl Hollier, and Ray Thibodeaux, to name a few.
Buddy will be missed by all, especially his wife of 65 years, Frances Guilbeau Myers of Jennings; his son Bryon and wife Leslie of Iota; Keith and wife Kate of Jennings; and daughter, Daniela Ledoux and husband Brandan of Iota; and a very special nephew, Tim and wife Kathy of Egan; seven grandchildren, Regina, Justin, Megan, Selina, Chris, Adrian, Phillip; two step-grandchildren, Laura and Toni; eight great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild; brother, Robert Lee Myers of Egan; and sister, Vivian Taylor of Florida.
He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Rufus Myers and Johnson “Red” Myers; three sisters, Margaret Cormier, Judy Redding, and Beatrice Myers; two grandchildren, Katrina Rachelle Myers and Kaleb Wade Myers.
Pallbearers will be Tim Myers, Brandan Ledoux, Chris Ledoux, Justin Myers, Phillip Myers and Dwayne Gotreaux.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Heart of Hospice, Heather Gauthreaux, and his sitters Candice Stanford and Kat Clement.
