Three Southwest Louisiana airports will share a portion of the $11.8 million awarded by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration to improve local airports across the state, according to announcements Tuesday from U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La. and Congressman Clay Higgins, R-La.

“Airports are the first impression our state makes on businesses and families to move here,” Cassidy said in a press release. “The infrastructure law allows Louisiana to make our communities attractive for businesses.”

“This funding will provide much needed resources to improve our local airport so that we can continue to provide for the community,”  Higgins said in a news release.

An additional $1.4 million has been awarded to the Jennings Airport for rehabilitation of a runway.

The airport was awarded $304,000 last week to overlay 5,000 feet of runway and to install a new fueling system and equipment.

The DeQuincy Industrial Airport will also receive $140,615 for a project to seal runway pavement surface and pavement joints.

Chennault International will also receive $54,000 to rehabilitate a taxiway and $67,500 to install taxiway lighting.

Since last fall, Louisiana airports have received $70.3 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for improvements and upgrade to facilities.
