Second arrest made in last year’s 7th Street homicide

A second arrest has been made in a November 2022 homicide that occurred in the 2900 block of 7th Street.
Lake Charles Police Deputy Chief Franklin Fondel said 37-year-old Markuis Deuntray Silvers of Macon, Miss., died from a gunshot wound. There was evidence of forced entry into the residence Silvers was in with three minor children.
During the course of the investigation, detectives interviewed witnesses, reviewed hours of video surveillance, and assessed other evidence connected to the suspects. Through this process, they were able to identify two suspects, Fondel said.
On Dec. 6, 2022, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 21-year-old Isaiah Carlton Lachney of Lake Charles for one count of second-degree murder, principal. Judge Tony Fazzio set bond at $550,000.
On, Dec. 13, 2022, SWAT Officers located Lachney in the 500 block of West Prien Lake Road. He was taken into custody, without incident, at 2:19 p.m. He was booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center, where he remains in custody at the time of the issuance of this release.
Detectives continued their investigation and on Feb. 27, obtained an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Naun Armando Contreras of Houston for one count of second-degree murder. Fazzio set bond at $850,000.
On April 13, LCPD detectives and evidence officers traveled to Houston and made contact with the following agencies: Harris County Constable’s Office, Precinct 2 Special Operations Division, Harris County Constable’s Office, Precinct 8, Harris County Sherriff’s Office VIPER Task Force and the US Marshals Service’s Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force.
At about 8:30 a.m., a narcotics search warrant was executed at a residence in the 2100 block of Live Oak St., Houston. At about 9 a.m., Contreras was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Galveston Sheriff’s Office County Jail, where he remains in custody, awaiting extradition back to Lake Charles.
