Harold Lee Guth, II, 74, of Lake Charles, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
Mr. Guth was born April 15, 1948, in Lake Charles to Marvin J. Guth Sr. and Alyce Vere Germer Guth. He was a graduate of LaGrange Senior High School where he explored his talents as a member of the band. He was also an active member of the Scout’s and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed building and flying model line-controlled airplanes with his brothers. Harold worked in the family business, Guth Dairy, Inc., until retiring in 1994. He then worked a short while for Louisiana Utilities Supply Company. He enjoyed following his sons’ and grandchildren to their athletic events, spoiling his cats and most importantly making fishing lures for fishing trips. Mr. Guth will be remembered for his undeniable love of fishing, with countless trips to the Lacassine Refuge and Longville Pond. Just a man, his boat and the fish! “If he wasn’t making lures, he was fishing with them.”
Mr. Guth leaves to honor his memory, his wife of nearly 54 years, Grace Ann Murphy Guth of Lake Charles; son, Bryan Leigh Guth and wife Angela of Lake Charles; daughter-in-law, Jodie Rabalais Guth, PhD of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Hannah Guth of Lake Charles, Hailey Guth Skinner and husband Sam of Rome, Italy, Adam Guth of Hammond, and Kevin Guth of Lake Charles; step-grandchildren, Cole and Luke Pierson; and brother, Charles Guth, DDS and wife Claire of Lake Charles; brother-in-law, George Walter Murphy of Welsh; sister-in-law, Joan Guth of Tennessee; brother-in-law, Ken Wyrick of Lake Charles; and brother-in-law, David Murphy and wife Candy of Bossier City.
He was preceded in death by his son, Walter Lee Guth, M.D.; sister, Mary Joe Murphy Guth; brother, Marvin J. Guth Jr., DDS; sister, Alice Arlene Guth Wyrick; and his parents.
The family offers deepest appreciation to Selena Brock, Harbor Hospice, and Brookdale Memory Care. And, to all the CNA and nurse “Vickies,” we cherish the memory, with a wink and a giggle, of your kind acceptance of Mr. Harold’s little quirk! We thank you for the gentle loving care given to him. To Victoria, the original Vickie, thank you for the mis-use of your beautiful name.
Memorial service will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023, in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home. Christopher Hyde will officiate. Interment services will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Saturday will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.
