McNeese (29-12) took a 2-0 lead on four hits in the sixth inning. Kaylee Lopez reached on a bunt single to third, scoring pinch runner Rylee Eyster. Moreno scored the second run on the back half of a double steal. McNeese threatened to add to its lead with the bases loaded, but leadoff hitter Alayis Seneca struck out looking to end the inning.

Houston (18-19) tied the score in the seventh inning on a solo home run by Emma Robertson and single by Paige Hulsey to score Amanda Carden.

Houston has hit at least one home run in each of its last six games.

Houston left the bases loaded in the fourth inning after Cowgirls starter Whitney Tate hit two batters and gave up a single. But she got out of the inning with strikeout and a groundout.

Lopez, Bouvier and Erin Ardoin each had two hits for the Cowgirls, who beat Houston 9-1 on March 15 in Lake Charles. Vallejo (9-7) earned the win in relief, throwing two scoreless innings. Vallejo has won each game in McNeese’s current three-game winning streak.

Graduate student Kenna Wilkey (13-8) took the loss in her longest career outing, tossing a complete game.

Junior outfielder Paige Hulsey tallied her ninth multi-hit game of the season and 16th of her career for the Cougars, who are 2-1 in extra-inning games.

The Cowgirls will host Nicholls State in a three-game Southland Conference series this weekend. The series will start with a single game at 6 p.m. Friday and conclude with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.
