Shirley Borel Edgley Manuel, 86, of Sulphur passed away at 1:27 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 in a Sulphur assisted living facility.
Mrs. Manuel was born on Feb. 28, 1937 in Lake Charles where she lived all of her life and was a graduate of LaGrange High School and attended Sowela Technical Institute. Five years ago she moved to Sulphur into assisted living. In her earlier years she worked at Christus St. Patrick Hospital as a pharmaceutical technician. Later in life she worked at Johnson Funeral Home, Hixson Funeral Home, Consolata Cemetery, and part time for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department. Mrs. Manuel was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church as well as Catholic Deaf Center.
She enjoyed working in and tending to her flower beds. Mrs. Manuel had a strong fondness for cats and had many throughout the years as pets.
Those left to cherish her memory are children, Alesia Staha (Larry) of Richmond, Texas, Angela Demary (Gilbert) of Big Lake, and Anjeanette Moore (Andrew) of Sulphur; grandchildren, Wesley Staha (Ashley) and Marya Moore; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Manuel; her parents, Maisie and Wesley Borel; and a sister, Audrey Borel.
A funeral mass will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Father Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Garden under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin in the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until leaving for the church at 11:30 a.m. A cursillo rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m.
