FEMA awards another $7M in hurricane recovery grants

U.S. Congressman Clay Higgins, R-Louisiana, said the Federal Emergency Management Agency is awarding an additional $7,117,548.63 million in federal grants for hurricane recovery efforts in Southwest Louisiana.
The reimbursement includes:
- $6,019,226.58 for the Southwest Louisiana Hospital Association for emergency protective measures for Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. The reimbursement is made at 100% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 403 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
- $1,098,322.05 for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Office for emergency protective measures. The reimbursement is made at 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 403 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
“Much of our official Congressional work to advance recovery projects occurs behind the scenes,” Higgins said in an email to the American Press. “Funding finalization and the associated formal announcement of funding are the result of constant efforts over many months with FEMA and state and local stakeholders.”
He said all funding will be delivered to the state of Louisiana and the state is responsible for disbursing the funds to each sub-recipient.
Higgins said to date, hisoffice has delivered over $3.9 billion in hurricane recovery relief.
